A recent Reddit post about an unnamed (Initech?) company’s Spirit Week Flyer picked up enough steam to be covered by various news outlets. In the flyer, which has been criticized as everything from being tone-deaf to AI slop, the company calls for a “fun filled week of laughter, spirit, and celebration” and for the employees to “make this Spirit Week unforgettable.” However, the company not only failed to present thoughtful, engaging activities for its workforce, it could not even propose unique ideas for each of the seven days (e.g., repeat days of Team Spirit, Funny Awards, and Sweet Treats). The flyer also promotes Boss’s Day (both Thursday and Saturday), but no employee recognition. A good reminder that employee morale and retention require real thought and effort, and that poorly planned initiatives such as these are likely to have the opposite effect.
