Suffolk County IT Supervisor Christopher Naples was arrested for mining Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies utilizing county government resources. Naples used at least 46 county computers to mine for the electronic coins (which is accomplished by solving complex math equations), resulting in inflated electricity bills to the county. While some of the devices Naples used were out in the open, others were hidden in unused electrical wall panels or underneath floorboards. If convicted, Naples could face 15 years in prison.
