The substantial increase in unemployment activity during the pandemic highlighted problems within Wisconsin’s unemployment system, beyond those attributable to temporarily heightened traffic. In September, the Department of Workforce Development announced a federal grant of over $11 million to modernize the system. In addition to the technical upgrades to the “existing, antiquated mainframe,” DWD hopes to make the system “easier to navigate.”
