Managing Remote Workers

Authors Anne Helen Peterson and Charlie Warzel talk about their new book Out of Office: The Big Problem and Bigger Promise of Working from Home. One key take-away—remote and hybrid work is more than simply “working from home.” It requires a whole new type of management, and most businesses are oblivious to this (and, accordingly, failing at it). Listen to this recent interview (or read the transcript) for some of the authors’ thoughts on the pros and cons of office vs. remote work, how some pros and cons may not quite be as they seem, and a group of additional resources on the topic.

Relatedly, as the nature of work, and the workplace, shifts, some companies are creating new jobs and job titles—e.g., Vice President of Flexible Work, Head of Team Anywhere, Chief Heart Officer. Might any of these fill a gap at your workplace?
