In December, Kellogg’s made news for its ratification of a new union contract after a highly publicized strike. While unionization and related efforts continue to make the news throughout the nation, there is also some significant local activity. For instance, Raven Software (a Middleton-based subsidiary of Activision Blizzard) laid off 12 quality assurance testers, prompting employee walkouts. While unionization efforts with the Communication Workers of America have supermajority support, as of late January, Activision Blizzard would not voluntarily recognize the union.
Business Takeaway: There are many common factors driving the Great Resignation and union organizing efforts. While union activity still has not returned to what it once was, it is also unlikely that this is the last we will hear about it. What have you seen and experienced in your industry?
