Grounds for Organizing

To follow-up on prior coverage of unionization efforts and potential National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) violations, it was recently reported that Starbucks has lost 16 out of 17 NLRA cases, which included claims of “worker intimidation, discriminatory rules, and unlawful discipline and termination of union organizers.” Meanwhile, Colectivo ratified its first union contract, with agreements on compensation, paid holidays, shift times, and rest periods. While this is far from the only industry experiencing a labor shift (see, e.g., video game unions), it is one that is apparent both at home and across the nation.
